1/365 Lisa Christian

I grew up with a wonderful girl named Lisa. In those days her middle name was Christian and her last name was something else, but now her last name is Christian. She quite literally taught me that humor is the way to a joyful life, and that laughing make everything else ok. She humbled me with her musical talent and her quick wit that I could never possibly keep up with, and yet she was humble herself. She taught me to stand up for what I believed in.

I remember making fake radio shows, and drawing hilarious cartoons, lisa using my mothers kitchen cabinets as a amp, playing in the snow (even though we were much too old), macrobiotic cooking. our strangely matching prom dresses (unplanned) and later, going to the bar to see Lisa perform. I remember many, many silly inside jokes like they were yesterday. I remember defending Lisa from underclassmen whent he rumors started. I remember her hiding on the floor of the back of my mothers car, while I drove to pick up her girlfriend, because her girlfriends mother somehow thought she could prevent her daughter from being gay, just by keeping her away from Lisa. I'd never have been so deceitful for any other person or cause, but I knew gay was gay, and that mothers can't change that.

She will always be the sister of my heart and the other daughter of my mother even though I haven't seen her in probably 15 years.
